  • About SAF€RA:

SAF€RA originated as an ERA-NET project entitled 'Coordination of European Research on Industrial Safety towards Smart and Sustainable Growth' that was funded for three years by the European Commission in the 7th Framework Programme (Grant agreement no: 291812). Under the ERA-NET scheme it identified areas of joint interest and expected synergies of collaborative research, and stimulated transnational research on industrial safety.

SAF€RA brings dynamism into European research on industrial safety where it cannot be tackled at the national level. SAF€RA will continue in context of the European Technology Platform on Industrial Safety, ETPIS, which initiated the original SAF€RA project.

SAF€RA - Symposium Industrial Safety - Challenges, value and needs

SAF€RA organized a symposium aiming at identifying and confirming themes and subtopics for the future SAF€RA calls in Berlin, on March 10-11, 2014.

Welcome:
Industrial safety is a vital and important prerequisite for sustainable growth and competitiveness of the European Union. The problems related to industrial safety are common to all and cannot be tackled adequately at the national level. There is an urgent need to refocus the resources of national research programmes in EU Member States on industrial safety. SAF€RA, an EU-funded coordination project, will bring dynamism into European research on industrial safety by fostering collaboration of national research programmes, by encouraging lateral thinking and by promoting innovations related to implementation of industrial safety.

This symposium targeted generalists of risk from industry, science, inspection and administration. The lectures provided an insight to achievements and requirements as seen by industry and authorities, identify risks of emerging technologies and best practices which may be used to raise standards in neighbouring industrial sectors and leading to closer networking of companies, agencies and sciences with partners in the project, who represent the funding organisations of their countries and regions.

The symposium was also looking at themes of the 2nd SAF€RA joint call

  • Good practices in managing new and emerging risks, and
  • New technologies in improving safety

and topics for future SAF€RA calls. Participants received information and arguments on decisions to be made in industrial safety research and transfer of results to standardization and daily practice.

SAF€RA - Memorandum of Common Understanding

The SAF€RA has released its Memorandum of Common Understanding.

The first steps of the SAF€RA project were to agree on the priorities for future joint activities and to develop a joint strategy. Complementarities, gaps and new opportunities in research were examined and summarized in a report upon which the discussions on the priorities were based. A consultation process was initiated among the partners and the Advisory Panel of SAF€RA and broadened to include the national networks, the Commission, and the social partners, aiming to define the future direction for SAF€RA. The outcome of the consultation process is the Memorandum of Common Understanding, including the SAF€RA Strategy for the two remaining years of the project, and beyond.

SAF€RA Deliverable

SAF€RA has recently published the public deliverable on the Identification of areas of joint interest and management procedures applicable in transnational cooperation.

Deliverable name:
Workshop proceedings - Identification of areas of joint interest and management procedures applicable in treansnational cooperation

Main authors:
Olivier Salvi, based on a survey and the contributions presented in a workshop on july 5-6,2012

Executive Summary:
The overall objective of the SAF€RA project is to coordinate research investment among the Member States in the field of industrial safety. In order to reach this objective, the project work plan includes a series of activities to develop joint strategies prior to the launch of joint calls for proposals (in the work package WP3).
This report identifies the areas of joint interest and management procedures applicable in transnational cooperation in the framework of the SAF€RA project.
It describes the main outcomes of a survey discussed and consolidated during a workshop on July 5&6, 2012 in Toulouse. All partners of the consortium took part in the survey and enabled to collect information on 16 programmes. 15 programmes were presented during the workshop, with the objective to prepare the ground for future joint calls for proposals in the field of industrial safety.
The main conclusions concern the management procedures to define research programmes and launch call for proposals, as well as the content (the possible topics for research).
